I had a prospect email me recently and ask me about SEO. He wanted to now if Bolero has the experience to help a site get higher search engine rankings. Here was my response.
Dear [Prospect],
When it comes to SEO, I'm as good as the budget allows. :) Honestly, SEO (now more frequently being referred to as SEM - search engine marketing) is one of those things that will only be as good as the client is willing to invest. There are no less than 80 things we can do to move your site up the rankings. It starts with tableless design, search engine friendly URLs, meta tags, et al but it ends with CONTENT.
Content is still king. That is why thousands of freelance writers are happily employed working from home spending 8-10 hours a day doing nothing but writing blogs and articles and product descriptions for companies trying to boost their rankings.
Example: I have a web site called motifcity.com. I wrote a few books on a popular music keyboard and they do pretty well. I have spent a LOT of time optimizing my site. As a result, if you type in Yamaha Motif Books in Google, I come up ranked #2, even ahead of national retail chains. Check this out: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=yamaha+motif+books
One more example: my business partner's site, Miles Consulting Corp. I used to work as a software director for them. I still contract with them daily. We worked very hard daily to raise visibility in Google. There is a ton of content and landing pages all over their site. Miraculously Miles Consulting is now ranked #1 with this search: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=asp.net+consulting. This is not a fluke. Content is king and there is a ton of it on this web site.
Again, it all comes down to commitment. How much time/money you are willing to invest. I am as good as the budget will allow :)
Regards,
Mark
